Modern-day aero bikes are trying ‘much less aero’ – are they actually sooner, or is advertising simply getting higher?

Not too way back, it was commonplace for each bike model’s race line-up to incorporate an aero bike, a climbing bike, and a ‘somewhere-in-between’ chassis. However in recent times, there’s been a resurgence of the ‘do all of it’ machine.

Trek, Specialised, Lapierre, and lots of others have prioritised a singular race bike encompassing aero options while edging near – or creeping below – the UCI’s minimal weight restrict of 6.8kg by advantage, usually, of slimmer tubing. These tube profiles seem to undermine the ‘wider is extra aero’ rule of thumb that was usually prevalent in white papers revealed by the identical manufacturers; there’s actually room for some cynicism right here.
