Meet the Your Place in Area Problem Winners

Highschool academics throughout the nation labored with their college students this previous fall to enter the U.S. Division of Schooling’s (Division’s) Your Place in Area Problem. The problem was the primary within the CTE Momentum collection, which prepares highschool college students for rewarding careers and will increase entry to profession and technical schooling (CTE). By way of the Your Place in Area Problem, academics helped their college students develop and submit designs for a services or products that advances area missions and explorations.

Dr. Amy Loyd, Assistant Secretary for the Workplace of Profession, Technical, and Grownup Schooling, introduced the winners in the present day, celebrating devoted academics and their progressive college students.

“With nationwide initiatives like Increase the Bar: Lead the World and Unlocking Profession Success, the Division is on a journey to make sure that all college students obtain an schooling that allows them to succeed and thrive at school — and in life. That’s why we launched CTE Momentum,” stated Dr. Loyd. “Please be a part of me in congratulating the profitable colleges, their academics, and their college students, as we rejoice the unimaginable alternatives that public schooling has to supply.”

A panel of consultants evaluated all eligible submissions, advancing the highest submissions to be scored by the next judges:

  • Ali Guarneros Luna, Senior System Architect at Lockheed Martin
  • Megan McArthur, an astronaut at NASA
  • Niteesh Elias, Director of Product Design at Honeywell Aerospace
  • Nithya Govindasamy, Senior Director of Coverage at Advance CTE
  • Ted Tagami, CEO and co-founder of Magnitude.io

After scoring the submissions towards the choice standards, the judges advisable eight winners.

  • Halifax County Excessive College in South Boston, Virginia — Plant Pods: Creating sustainable meal options on our option to Mars
  • Hirschi Excessive College in Wichita Falls, Texas — AI Satellite tv for pc System for Cybersecurity: Utilizing recycled supplies to forestall cyberattacks in low-earth orbit
  • Kealakehe Excessive College in Kailua Kona, Hawaii — Area Occupation Simulators: Empowering neighborhood by a highschool initiative
  • Shaker Excessive College in Latham, New York — Hydroponics System: Producing meals on Mars

In recognition of their progressive work, the profitable groups will every obtain $6,250 and in-kind prizes. These prizes embrace digital mentorship from consultants at Huge Area, Area STEM kits from MaxIQ Area, simulated area missions facilitated by Challenger Middle, and facility and manufacturing excursions at Blue Origin.
